The authors of the first article, from Columbia University, report on a study in New York City, part of a larger study of sexually transmitted disease, in which they examined the extent of Internet use for obtaining health information in 2 inner-city neighborhoods. The racial mix and economic status of these 2 neighborhoods were comparable. Surveys were conducted by trained interviewers at 6 high-traffic locations in each neighborhood at various times in order to maximize the likelihood of obtaining a representative sample of the target population of 15- to 30-year-olds.
