Pediatric hospitalist systems are being widely adopted in academic pediatric centers across the United States and Canada. Prior studies have assessed their effect on length of stay and hospital costs13 (see also this issue of AAP Grand Rounds). The authors conducted a cross-sectional survey of all physicians with admitting privileges (excluding surgeons, anesthesiologists, and radiologists) at a tertiary-care pediatric teaching hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, in April 2002. The study evaluated community- and hospital-based physicians’ attitudes regarding inpatient care, to determine their views of hospitalist systems and to identify predictors of positive and negative attitudes . . .
