Between May 1979 and May 2002, data were collected on 582 children with asymptomatic microscopic or gross hematuria who were referred to the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Ind. Twelve patients were excluded from the study because of a family history of hematuria, leaving 570 children ranging in age from 2 months to 18 years.
