The results of previous studies suggest that the rates of both type 1 and type 2 childhood diabetes are increasing, partly because of the epidemic of obesity in the United States.13 The objective of this study was to determine the incidence of childhood diabetes from 1985 to 2001.
The authors from the Universities of Chicago and Washington, used data from the Chicago Childhood Diabetes Registry, which includes data on a multi-ethnic cohort of 1242 patients younger than 18 years with a diagnosis of diabetes made between 1985 and 2001.
