Ambul Pediatr. 2007;7:1824; doi:10.1016/j. ambp.2006.10.005[Medline]
Researchers from New York University School of Medicine analyzed the relationship between media viewing and reading/teaching activities in the homes of 77 children, aged three to five years, who were not yet in school. Participants were drawn from those seeking primary care at a hospital serving lower socioeconomic status families: 69% of the caregivers of study children were immigrants, 29% reported reading difficulty, and their mean educational level was the 10th grade. Media exposure was collected via a 24-hour recall diary, and categorized according to educational content and target age group. A structured caregiver interview
