High School Seniors’ Drinking and Driving

Since 1975, the "Monitoring the Future Project" has annually surveyed a nationally representative sample of about 17,000 high school seniors in order to provide data on various trends. This paper reports trends from 1984 to 1997 related to driving after drinking alcohol and riding in a car with a driver who has been drinking alcohol. Confidential self-completed questionnaires were analyzed to assess changes over time and the relationship of drinking behaviors to demographic and lifestyle factors.
