Investigators from Chaim Sheba Medical Center and Tel-Aviv University in Israel retrospectively reviewed the medical records of infants born at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center and screened for hearing impairment from January 1, 1997 to July 1, 2004, to (1) compare the prevalence of hearing impairment (HI) in infants with and without preauricular skin tags and/or ear pits (PSEP) and (2) assess the effectiveness of transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) as a hearing screening tool.
