Taking to heart recent recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics1 that pediatricians screen for domestic violence in their practices, the authors tested the feasibility and yield of screening in a community pediatric practice in northern Kentucky that cares for a population that is 55% Medicaid, 36% private insurance and 9% self-pay. Over a 3-month period, all women who brought in children for well child visits were screened by a single investigator using 6 questions drawn from a screening tool promoted by the American Medical Association.2 Of the 154 women who were screened, 47 disclosed a history of domestic injury. . . .
