School-based scoliosis screening programs are mandated in 26 states in the United States, yet little outcome data are available. To study the effectiveness of these programs, a retrospective cohort study was performed among children attending public or private schools in Rochester, Minnesota. Children were followed until they left the district or reached 19 years of age. Data which included results of school-based screenings performed annually in grades 59 was subsequently combined with data from medical records.
