A three-year, national study of 39,032 player-seasons (53.5% boys; 46.5% girls) was conducted to study the incidence of injuries among boys and girls participating in different sports. From 19951998, 246 athletic trainers reported injury data using the NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) Injury Surveillance Study in which severity is categorized by days lost from participation: minor (<8 days), moderate (821 days), and severe (>21 days).
