For children from low income families, limited access to medical care has correlated with over utilization of emergency department (ED) services, particularly for nonurgent care.1,2 Piehl et al from Chapel Hill and Greensboro, NC, reviewed ED records to assess the combined effects of implementing a phone triage system coupled with expansion of a Medicaid panel of primary care providers (PCPs).
