In an observational cohort study within a larger randomized trial in Belarus, researchers from Canada, the United States, and Belarus examined the differences in infant growth and health between infants exclusively breastfed for 3 versus 6 months of life. Two thousand eight hundred and sixty-two newborns were exclusively breastfed for 3 months and then continued mixed breast and formula feeding with complementary foods until at least 6 months of age. These infants were compared to 621 infants who were exclusively breastfed for at least 6 months.
