Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley and Kaiser Permanente, Sacramento, quantified the association between duration of breastfeeding and risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) by performing a meta-analysis of prior studies. In addition, they assessed the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on any such associations and discussed the implications of these findings for the evaluation of whether breastfeeding reduces the risk of childhood leukemia.
