Chronic skin disorders adversely affect the quality of life of children. To date, quality of life studies have not compared the child- and parent-reported impact of cutaneous disorders with other common chronic disorders of childhood. To address this issue, investigators from hospitals in Dundee and Glasgow, UK: (1) cross-validated a new generic health-related quality of life proxy measure for children, the Children’s Life Quality Index (CLQI), with an established specialty-specific dermatological questionnaire, the Children’s Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI); and (2) compared the quality of life in children with chronic childhood skin disorders with common non-dermatological disorders, utilizing the CLQI.
