This article represents a 1-year study during a single basketball season (1996–1997) of injuries occurring in both girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball at 100 Texas high schools. All schools had a full-time, certified athletic trainer and had more than 740 students per school. The study population ranged between 14 and 18 years of age. Standardized forms were used to collect injury data and were submitted weekly by the trainers, beginning with preseason practice and ending with the last game.
