Children from the United Kingdom admitted to the hospital during a 5-month study period with acute asthma were enrolled in a randomized, controlled study. Patients were excluded if they were less than 3 years, needed intravenous beta agonist therapy, couldn’t use a spacer mouthpiece effectively or were readmitted during the 5-month study period.
