A multicenter study by the National Institutes of Health Childhood Asthma Research and Education network (CARE) sought to determine the effect of daily inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) on linear growth in preschool children with recurrent wheezing. Children aged 24 to 35 months and 36 to 47 months were enrolled in a double-blind randomized, placebo-controlled parallel-group comparison of placebo with inhaled fluticasone at a total daily dose of 176 mcg/day delivered via Aero-Chamber with mask.
