Researchers from the University of Washington, the Group Health Research Institute in Seattle, and the Native and Tribal Health groups in Alaska conducted a “wait-list” randomized trial to determine whether installation of gun cabinets in homes improved firearm storage practices in rural Alaskan Native villages. At baseline, all households were surveyed about gun and ammunition storage practices. Households randomized to the “early” group had gun cabinets installed with instructions and received a safety message about keeping all guns and ammunition locked in the cabinet.
