Question: Among infants breastfed by mothers treated with benzodiazepines, what is the incidence of CNS depression?

To assess the risk of central nervous system (CNS) depression in infants breastfed by mothers taking benzodiazepines, researchers from multiple institutions in Canada administered a telephone questionnaire to 124 women who had previously contacted the Motherisk Program, a medication information program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, for advice on the use of the benzodiazepines during lactation.
