Researchers from UCLA examined the utility of a weekly text-based messaging service, called the Hookup, that provides information on sexual preventive health for adolescents. Texts such as “Think ur clear if u don't have symptoms? Most STD's don't show. Get tested. Text clinic + ur zipcode to 61827” comprised the weekly messages. The researchers conducted 3 focus groups of participants aged 15 to 20 years, recruited from 2 teen clinics in Los Angeles County.
