Investigators from multiple institutions in Montreal, Canada sought to identify predictors of smoking initiation in adolescents and young adults using data from the Nicotine Dependence in Teens Study. The study includes a prospective cohort of 7th grade students recruited in 1999–2000 from high schools in Montreal.
