Determinants of Cigarette Smoking Initiation in Young Adults

Investigators from multiple institutions in Montreal, Canada sought to identify predictors of smoking initiation in adolescents and young adults using data from the Nicotine Dependence in Teens Study. The study includes a prospective cohort of 7^th grade students recruited in 1999–2000 from high schools in Montreal. Student participants completed self-administered questionnaires regarding their cigarette smoking history every 3 months during the school year through grade 11 (20 survey cycles).
