Investigators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reviewed national data to determine if elimination of endemic measles, rubella, and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) has been sustained since 2000 (for measles) and 2004 (for rubella and CRS). Confirmed cases of measles, rubella, and CRS were classified as imported (originating outside the US), unknown, or endemic (a transmission of virus with identical nucleotide sequences lasting for more than 12 consecutive months in a defined geographic area).
