Researchers from the Universities of Cincinnati and Washington sought to assess physician utilization and awareness of current preparticipation physical evaluation (PPE) guidelines and to determine obstacles encountered by PPE providers. They conducted a telephone and web-based survey of all members of the Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (WCAAP), a random 50% sample of members of the Washington Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP), all Washington State high school athletic directors (ADs), and the leadership of every US state high school athletic association (HSAA).
