Investigators analyzed data from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS), a collaboration of 26 clinical research institutions in the United States and Canada, to determine infection rates, infection-related mortality, and risk factors among childhood cancer survivors. The CCSS includes a cohort of 20,346 children who were diagnosed with cancer (ie, leukemia, brain tumor, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, sarcoma, or kidney cancer) between 1970 and 1986 at <21 years of age and had survived for ≥5 years, as well as a control group of approximately 4,000 siblings of survivors.
