Question: Among patients presenting for evaluation of rheumatologic disease at a pediatric rheumatology clinic, what is the prevalence of celiac disease?

Researchers from multiple institutions conducted a retrospective chart review of new patients who presented for evaluation of a possible rheumatologic disorder to a pediatric rheumatology service at a tertiary care center between 2006 and 2013 in order to determine the prevalence of celiac disease (CD) in this population. All study patients were screened for CD markers (antigliadin antibodies [AGA IgA and IgG], anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies [TTG IgA], and antiendomysial antibodies [EMA IgA]) as a standard part of their initial evaluation.
