Question: Among children with advanced cancer, what physical and psychological symptoms do they experience, how much distress do they experience from those symptoms, and what factors are associated with more severe symptoms?

Study design: Prospective longitudinal survey
Investigators from multiple institutions conducted a prospective longitudinal study to determine the prevalence and severity of symptoms and factors associated with distress in children who had progressive, recurrent, or nonresponsive cancer. Study children were ≥2 years old and were being treated at 1 of 3 large pediatric cancer centers. Data on clinical status, treatments, and demographics were obtained from medical records.
