Investigators from New Zealand and Canada prospectively followed a cohort of infants at risk for hypoglycemia to determine the relationship between the duration, frequency, and severity of low glucose concentrations in the early neonatal period and neurodevelopmental outcomes at age 2 years. Newborns enrolled in the study had at least 1 of the following risk factors for hypoglycemia: maternal diabetes, a gestational age <37 weeks, or birth weight that was either <10th or >90th percentile.
