Investigators from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital conducted a pre-post interventional study to evaluate the treatment outcomes using a revised protocol compared to a standard protocol for treating infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). The revised protocol was based on the results of a pharmacokinetic modeling study (PK protocol).1 The PK protocol used a larger loading dose, a more rapid taper of the dose, and fewer treatment doses than the standard protocol.
