ABSTRACT
Researchers from multiple institutions conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study to examine the association between stimulant medications used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and bone mass. Children and adolescents aged 8–20 years who participated in the 2005–2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were eligible. The primary predictor was stimulant use, which was self-reported by NHANES participants ≥16 years old and reported by proxies for younger participants. Stimulant users were defined as those who reported use of amphetamine, methylphenidate, lisdexamfetamine, dextroamphetamine, or levoamphetamine.
