Investigators from UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, Cleveland, OH, conducted a retrospective study to assess the association between length of stay (LOS) and corticosteroid use among children hospitalized for bronchiolitis who later received diagnoses of asthma. For the study, the investigators abstracted data from the Pediatric Health Information System database that includes clinical and demographic information on inpatients at nearly 50 children’s hospitals across the United States. Participants included in the study had been hospitalized for first-time bronchiolitis (based on ICD-9 and All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups diagnoses) between 2006 and 2015 when they were <2 years old and subsequently had ≥1 hospitalization for asthma when they were 2–18 years old.
