Investigators from multiple institutions conducted an observational study to assess the effectiveness of a third dose of MMR in the control of a mumps outbreak. The mumps outbreak occurred at the University of Iowa from August 2015–May 2016. The University of Iowa requires all students upon enrollment to submit provider-signed vaccination records with verification of the dates of receipt of 2 doses of MMR. During the mumps outbreak, a vaccination campaign was launched in which a third dose of MMR was offered to students 18–24 years old.
