Investigators from the University of Colorado conducted a cross-sectional observational study to describe the rates and patterns of hand and wrist injuries among high school athletes. Data were obtained from the National High School Sports-Related Injury Surveillance Study and included the 2006–2016 academic years. This database includes all US high schools with National Athletic Trainers’ Association-affiliated certified athletic trainers who are willing to complete a weekly Internet-based data collection tool regarding injuries of their athletes.
The primary exposure was an athletic event (AE), defined as one athlete participating in one school-sanctioned practice, competition, or performance.
