Investigators from Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden, conducted a longitudinal study to assess later visual problems in children born very preterm. Study participants were infants born at <32 weeks’ gestation between 2004 and 2007. Data on the results of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and cranial ultrasonographic examinations conducted during the neonatal period were collected. At 2.5 years, corrected age cognition was assessed with the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Third Edition, with cognitive disability defined as a score >1 standard deviation below expected for age.
