Investigators from the University of Colorado Denver and the CDC conducted a cluster randomized trial to assess the effect of a provider communication intervention on HPV vaccination among adolescents. The intervention included 5 components: a fact sheet about HPV infection and vaccination, a parent education website about HPV, HPV disease images, an HPV vaccination decision aid, and a 30-minute webinar followed by two 1-hour, in-person provider communication training sessions that focused on initiating the HPV vaccination conversation using a presumptive approach followed by the use of motivational interviewing for those parents who remained resistant to vaccination.
