Investigators from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and the University of California San Diego conducted a longitudinal cohort study on the association between frequent use of digital media and subsequent ADHD symptoms among adolescents. Study participants were students from 10 Los Angeles County high schools who were enrolled during the fall of their 10th-grade year. At baseline, students completed a survey that included the Current Symptoms Self-Report Form (CSSRF), which contains 9 items on the frequency of inattention symptoms and 9 items on the frequency of hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms during the preceding 6 months; possible responses for each item range from 0 (never or rare) to 3 (very often).
