Investigators from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and Imperial College London conducted a retrospective cohort study to assess neurodevelopmental outcomes in perinatal arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS). Infants were eligible if they (a) were treated at 1 of the 2 study hospitals from 1990–2015, (b) had PAIS confirmed on MRI, and (c) were not lost to follow-up for at least 12 months. All participants had their MRIs re-evaluated by study investigators to classify their PAIS location as middle cerebral artery (MCA, which included identifying the MCA subset that were main branch MCA), posterior cerebral artery (PCA), or anterior cerebral artery (ACA).
