Investigators from multiple Israeli institutions conducted a retrospective cohort study to assess the association between adolescent hypertension and later end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Participants were eligible if they had been conscripted into mandatory Israeli military service between 1967–2013 and did not have or receive a diagnosis at conscription that affects renal function (eg, diabetes, lupus) other than hypertension. Most Israelis (male and female) are conscripted into military service between the ages of 16–19 years old. Participant data were obtained from the central conscription registry of the Israel Defense Forces.
