Investigators from multiple Greek institutions conducted a retrospective cohort study to assess the association of duration of fever after the initiation of treatment (FAT) for UTI in children and renal scarring. Children were eligible if they (a) were aged 0–2 years with a first episode of febrile UTI (defined as positive urine culture [>105 colony forming units (CFUs)/mL for clean catch collection, >104 CFU/mL for catheterization collection, and >103 CFU/mL for suprapubic aspiration collection]), (b) were admitted to the study hospital between 2002 and 2004, and (c) underwent 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scanning 6 months after the UTI.
