Investigators from multiple institutions in France conducted a retrospective review to better understand the circumstances of injuries in physically abused infants with classic metaphyseal lesion (CML), which is a fracture through immature metaphyseal bone near the growth plate. CML is thought to be caused by torsion or traction and is considered to be highly suggestive of abuse.1 Children included in the study were identified through review of cases of suspected abuse referred by the court system in France for expert medical evaluation.
