Investigators from multiple institutions conducted a case series to describe the clinical signs and symptoms of children with postnatally acquired Zika virus disease. Cases were defined as those who met the national surveillance definition for confirmed or probable disease, had illness onset in 2016 or 2017, were reported to the national arboviral disease surveillance system, and resided in 1 of 10 participating US states. Investigators abstracted demographic, clinical, and laboratory data for each case from local health department surveillance data obtained from medical records, health care providers, and patients and guardians.
