Investigators from multiple institutions in Finland and Sweden conducted a case control study to compare long-term pain and quality of life in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) who underwent surgical treatment, consisting of posterior spinal fusion with pedicle screws, to that of untreated AIS patients and individuals without AIS. Cases were patients with AIS who underwent surgical treatment when they were between 12 and 19 years old at a single center by a single orthopaedic surgeon.
