Investigators from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), Cincinnati, OH, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, OH, conducted a study assessing the impact of a quality improvement (QI) program designed to increase the use of enteral antibiotics in children hospitalized with community acquired pneumonia (CAP) or skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI). Study patients were children >60 days old hospitalized at CCHMC with CAP or SSTI between January 2016 and June 2018. A multidisciplinary team designed and implemented the QI program with a goal of increasing the use of enteral antibiotics in children with CAP and SSTI from 44% to 75%.
