Investigators at multiple institutions conducted a cohort study to characterize the clinical characteristics and outcomes in adolescent females with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) associated with low von Willebrand factor (VWF). Study participants were postmenarchal females <21 years old with VWF activity ≥30 and ≥50 IU/dL and HMB who were seen at 1 of 10 centers in North America that were members of the Foundation for Women and Girls with Blood Disorders. Study eligibility was assessed using the pictorial blood assessment chart (PBAC), a validated tool to diagnose HMB; young women with PBAC scores >100 and low VWF activity were enrolled.
