Investigators from the CDC conducted a cohort study to assess the association of receipt of quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) and incidence of meningococcal disease. Data regarding cases of meningococcal disease were obtained from several surveillance systems, including the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System and Active Bacterial Core surveillance. These data were grouped into 3 periods based on when a primary dose (2005) and a booster dose (2010) of MenACWY was recommended by the CDC: 2000–2005 (pre-vaccine period), 2006–2010 (post-primary dose period), and 2011–2017 (post-booster dose period).
