Investigators from Fukuoka Children’s Hospital and Fukuoka National Hospital, both in Fukuoka, Japan, conducted a case control study to identify predictors of persistence or development of coronary artery aneurysms (CAA) among children with Kawasaki disease (KD) who responded to treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and aspirin. Study participants were children with KD treated at Fukuoka Children’s Hospital between November 2014 and March 2017. The medical records of these children were reviewed. Clinical, laboratory, and echocardiographic data were abstracted. Treatment included IVIG (2 g/kg) and aspirin (30-50 mg/kg/day). Repeated IVIG doses were administered to patients with persistent or recurrent fever. Echocardiography was performed on study patients prior to initial treatment and 4 weeks after treatment.
