Investigators from the University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate conducted a retrospective study of infants with neonatal seizures to compare the efficacy of 2 antiepileptic drugs (AED) on seizure and neurodevelopmental outcomes. All neonates in the study hospital’s NICU between 2008 and 2018 who had a diagnosis of clinically identified seizures confirmed by EEG were included. Maternal antenatal and neonatal baseline clinical characteristics were obtained from the medical record, including gestational age, birth weight, 5-minute Apgar score, age at seizure onset, and etiology of seizure.
