Investigators from multiple institutions conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare the safety and efficacy of a lower- and higher-calorie refeeding protocol in malnourished patients with anorexia nervosa (AN). Patients aged 12-24 years with AN who were hospitalized with medical instability due to malnutrition were eligible. Patients who were <60% of median BMI (mBMI) for age and sex were excluded. Demographics were collected at enrollment.
