Investigators from multiple institutions conducted a retrospective study to assess antibiotic susceptibility patterns and changes over time of E coli isolated from infants admitted to NICUs. For the study, they reviewed data in the Premier Health Database. This database includes data on inpatient encounters from participating community and academic hospitals in the US such as diagnosis codes, demographics, and, from some centers, detailed microbiology results. Study participants were infants admitted to a NICU in a center that provided microbiology results to the Premier database between 2009 and 2017.
