Investigators from multiple institutions conducted a study to assess long-term outcomes in children with congenital hemolytic anemia (CHA) undergoing total splenectomy (TS) or partial splenectomy (PS). For the study, they abstracted data from the Splenectomy in Congenital Hemolytic Anemia (SICHA) consortium registry on patients 2-17 years old requiring TS or PS for hereditary spherocytosis (HS) or Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) between 1996 and 2016. The SICHA consortium registry includes information on children with CHA treated at 1 of 16 centers in the US. Patient level data such as demographics, diagnoses, surgeries, clinical outcomes, and adverse events (AE) are included in the registry.
