A primary concern about decreasing the length of hospital stay after birth has been the potential need to rehospitalize more infants for management of jaundice. This case-control study conducted among members of the Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC) Medical Care Program sought to determine whether rehospitalization of newborns for jaundice is associated with length of hospital stay at birth and to identify risk factors for and outcomes of rehospitalization for jaundice.
